About Marc C Abrahms
Zambizi River #1, Zambizi, Africa
One morning before dawn, my sons Aaron and Max went with me from Zimbabwe to Zambia to photograph Victoria Falls. We were within 150 feet of the edge of Victoria Falls itself. The sound was deafening. I put the 500mm lens on a tripod and opened to f 4.5 so that I could have selective focus. I came close to stopping the motion of this great force of water. The water I was photographing from the bank probably was 25 feet away. I wanted to create a sensation of rushing and movement. At the time, I was mesmerized by the graphic color. The more I photographed this scene, the dizzier I became because I kept trying to focus on the rushing water and it just didn’t want to cooperate by slowing down. There were a number of images in this series that I loved, but this was the one I preferred the most because I felt it was my best definition of the excitement and the beauty of this particular time and place. I can still hear the roar of the water.
