In fact, the Golden Poppy is the state flower of California. I was in Los Angeles on a business trip during that season, and I drove out to Malibu, positioned myself so that the poppies were backlit and I could use a spot exposure meter reading. I double-exposed this image, taking one exposure with natural light and one exposure with fill flash using a 100mm lens at f8. This is truly one of my favorite images as there was an excitement in climbing this hill and finding something beautiful to share with others.
