About Marc C Abrahms
Rocky Mountain Sky, Colorado
In the fall of 1993, I had plans to go to California and meet with my friend, Dick Eskoff, who was being treated for cancer. We had planned to go to Seattle to take photographs because he told me that he wanted to go with me on one of my field trips before he died. I went out and visited with him, but unfortunately, he was too sick to travel with me. So, I changed my plans and went my friend Simon Baitler to Colorado to photograph the Aspens. He had business to tend to, so I went to Rocky Mountain National Park myself. On the way back, at nine in the evening, I saw this beautiful purple sky and trees on a hill in the distance. There was very little light and I used a tripod and a self-timer to minimize camera shake. I used a 500mm lens at f8 and my estimate is that the exposure was about 10 seconds. I am still frequently amazed at how the human eye filters colors and how we donít always see as much as the camera and film. I dedicate this photograph to the memory of Dick Eskoff, whose spirit and friendship were with me when I took this photo and will be with me as long as I live.
